A Delicious Partnership: Edible Tulsa and Booksmart Tulsa
Booksmart Tulsa wouldn't exist without collaboration. Over the past six years, nearly all of the 200 plus events we’ve done have been, in one way or another, a partnership. The moment I heard that Edible Tulsa was becoming a reality, I began looking for ways to team up.
Since the very beginning, we’ve been presenting food and cooking-related events, hosting the likes of Julie Powell, Gabrielle Hamilton, Amanda Hesser, Molly Wizenberg, Steven Raichlen, Anthony Bourdain, Joanne Chang, Virginia Willis, and Ree “The Pioneer Woman” Drummond’s first-ever book signing. Few events are as reliably fun, well attended, and well received as those related to cookbooks. But I look back and wonder how great they might have been had a partner like Edible Tulsa been available to us. Now I know.
Over the past year, Edible Tulsa and Booksmart Tulsa joined forces to make pies with internet sensation Joy the Baker at Congregation B’nai Emunah, bake whole wheat cookies and spiced nuts with Food52 Executive Editor Kristen Miglore at Tallgrass Prairie Table, and throw a classic Memorial Day cookout with Oklahoma’s own cowboy cook Kent Rollins at the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
The spirit of collaboration continues throughout 2015. Stay tuned for details on events with James Beard Award-winning culinary superstars including Aaron Franklin (Franklin Barbecue) and Oklahoma City-raised Danny Bowien (Mission Chinese Food).
